The price of Mounjaro is directly linked to the strength of your weekly injection. You always start low and build up step by step under the supervision of a doctor. The amounts below are indicative prices per month (four weekly doses), based on the official cost overview of the Farmacotherapeutisch Kompas (the Dutch national drug formulary) of Zorginstituut Nederland (the Dutch National Health Care Institute) and medicijnkosten.nl (reference date July 2026).

Please note: pharmacies usually also charge dispensing fees (terhandstellingskosten), and prices can change in the meantime or differ per type of packaging. So see the table as a reliable indication, not as a fixed quote.

What does a 3-month supply of Mounjaro cost?

A 3-month supply of Mounjaro costs approximately €555 to €1,260, depending on your dose. That is simply three times the monthly price: on the starting dose you're at around €555, on the highest doses towards €1,260.

In practice, you rarely stock up for 3 months in one go, by the way. Especially at the beginning, the doctor evaluates every few weeks how you respond to the medication, and only after that is your dose settled. Monthly delivery therefore prevents you from being left with pens in a strength you no longer use.

Important to know: you don't buy Mounjaro as a separate supply from a web shop. It is a prescription medicine that a pharmacy only dispenses on a doctor's prescription. Read more about the Mounjaro diet.

Websites that let you buy Mounjaro without a prescription are acting illegally and regularly sell counterfeits. That means taking a serious health risk. The only safe route is through a doctor who writes a prescription, after which a registered Dutch pharmacy supplies the medication.

Is Mounjaro covered by health insurance?

If you use Mounjaro to lose weight, health insurance does not reimburse the medicine. In that case you pay the full costs of approximately €185 to €420 per month yourself.

Only for type 2 diabetes is Mounjaro (partly) reimbursed under strict conditions from basic health insurance (basisverzekering). The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved Mounjaro for two uses: type 2 diabetes and weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or from 27 with a weight-related condition. But the fact that the medicine is officially approved for weight management doesn't mean that the insurer will also pay for it in that situation.

Ozempic or Mounjaro: which is more expensive?

How much weight do you lose with Mounjaro?

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, participants with obesity lost an average of 15% to 21% of their body weight in 72 weeks, depending on the dose. In the same period, the placebo group lost an average of 3.1%.

That weight loss is an average from a controlled study: results vary from person to person. Mounjaro also only works in combination with an adjusted diet and more exercise. Above all, the medicine takes away the constant feeling of hunger, which finally makes it possible to keep going. Most users notice the first effect after about 4 weeks.

It's also true that Mounjaro has side effects. According to apotheek.nl, the patient information channel of the KNMP (the Royal Dutch Pharmacists Association), nausea, diarrhoea and constipation are the most common, particularly in the period in which you build up the dose. These complaints usually decrease after that.
